During an electricity audit the householder will often state most electrical appliances are powered off. So why do we commonly see 300 watts or more on our electricity monitor? Such items as ovens, microwaves, AC units, entertainment appliances can all add considerable STANDBY ELECTRICITY to the home. This is the electricity often consumed by appliances waiting for a command, from a remote or keypad.
On a 35 cent electricity tariff every 100 watts of standby electricity is costing you $306 per year! So reducing your standby electricity and knowing your baseline electricity usage is VERY IMPORTANT in keeping electricity costs down.
